The Swimming Pool Experts for a Fantastic Luxury Custom Infinity Pool in Sydney

Custom Infinity Edge Pools Built Across Sydney

At FreeStyle Pools, we design and build custom concrete infinity pools for Sydney homeowners who want a vanishing edge on their property.

Also known as a negative edge pool, they create the illusion that the water extends into the surrounding landscape. They’re especially stunning when a backyard overlooks the ocean, bushland, city skylines, or a lower garden.

Our team shape every project around your site, from the first idea through to construction. They’ll consider everything from maximising your views and budget to meeting engineering requirements.

How an Infinity Edge Pool Works

An infinity pool has a lowered wall called a weir. Its water level sits just above this edge, allowing a thin sheet of water to flow over it. From the swimming area, the wall disappears. This creates the illusion that the water meets the horizon.

The falling water enters a hidden catch basin or trough below, where a pump then moves it back into the main pool to create a continuous cycle.

Blocks That Suit an Infinity Pool

The ideal site to build pools like these typically has either a spectacular view or a change in ground level that gives the vanishing edge a natural backdrop. That said, the block must also have enough space for the pool structure, catch basin, and equipment. It also needs to provide safe access for users.

Sloping and Elevated Sites

A sloping block lets the pool sit above the land below, which helps to strengthen the infinity effect. However, the exposed outer wall will need additional structural support. This is all designed by a structural engineer to ensure there is no future issues due to water pressure.

Waterfront and View Blocks

On waterfront, coastal, and elevated properties, we can align the infinity edge with the sea, harbour, forest, or skyline. The viewing position is also important. Hence, we consider whether people will see the pool from the house, deck, and pool area before setting the edge height and location.

Infinity Pool Design Options

Our customers can choose from several infinity pool design options in Sydney. For instance, the edge can run along one side, turn a corner or continue around several sides. You can also select tiles, coping, and the catch-basin surface to blend with the water and landscape.

We can ensure the trough sits below the main structure, behind a wall, or within landscaping so it is less visible. Here are some of the pool interior finishes available.

Wet Edge and Knife Edge

A wet edge lets water spill over a visible weir wall, typically toward a view. This is the familiar infinity-pool design and is often used on one or two sides.
A knife edge or wet deck brings the water level flush with the surrounding deck, where the water disappears into a narrow slot or grated channel around the pool. Rather than falling over an exposed wall. The water still needs to feed into a ‘balance tank’ to have enough volume to cope with evaporation and splash out.
Both options cost more than a standard pool. Additionally, a multi-sided knife edge are generally more complicated with plumbing, construction and tiling work.

Tiles and Waterline Finishes

A fully tiled interior creates a smooth, detailed finish that can produce a strong, even colour across the pool. Other interior finishes offer a different texture which may suit a more natural landscape. Dark finishes can reflect the sky and surroundings, while lighter finishes can create brighter blue water. Tiles across the weir and inside the trough also give a continuous appearance to the flowing edge.

Engineering a Pool on a Sloping Site

An infinity edge pool on a hill requires a structural design that accounts for several factors. They include the pool’s weight, soil, groundwater, exposed walls, and the force of water against the unsupported wall

Our construction process may involve excavation with piers, reinforced concrete and retaining walls. Access can affect the cost of excavation, planning deliveries and managing trucks during the concrete pour, while the wet edge itself demands very tight level tolerances to work correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an infinity pool cost in Sydney?

Infinity pools generally cost more than standard concrete pools. Our team will provide a quote for installing one, as the final price depends on several variables. They include:

  • Your site
  • Length of the edge
  • Size of the balance tank
  • Automatic cleaning in the tank
  • Engineering requirements
  • Site access
  • Finishes inside the tank
  • Landscaping
If your property has a view or slope that makes the edge a central design feature, an infinity pool can transform your backyard and lifestyle with a luxurious impression.
No. However, a slope or elevated position usually creates the strongest illusion with nature. That said, we can build an infinity pool on flatter ground if the design includes enough height for the edge and trough.
Infinity pools tend to use more water than standard pools because they evaporate more due to the continuous water movement over the edge. We design this type of pool with an option to switch off the infinity edge on hot days, but still be able to run the pool filtration cycle.
